    Do you qualify for a Garage Conversion or Carport/Porch Enclosure Permit?

    The existing garage, carport, or porch must be legally established before converting to an interior space and must meet the additional following requirements:

    The conversion or enclosure. . .

    1. Will not change the use of the property (for example, from single-family to two-family residential); and
    2. Will not modify the building footprint or building height; and
    3. Must use the existing roof/covering (if a new roof is required, project is considered an Addition)

    If the scope of work does not qualify, you may apply for a Residential New Construction and Addition Permit.

    Before submitting a permit application to Development Services, you must first submit a Water & Wastewater Service Plan Verification (WWWSPV) application and a plot plan online through the AB + C Portal for Austin Water (AW) approval. Visit the Utility Permitting Office webpage for instructions on how to obtain AW approval. After Austin Water approves and you receive the documents, upload the Determination Letter and stamped plot plan here:
