The fence project as described may be exempt from a building permit, however, work exempt from a permit must still comply with applicable Building Codes, City Codes, and all other applicable ordinances. Read more at Work Exempt.

Trade permits may still be required for any electrical, plumbing or mechanical work, which are issued by Building and Trade Contractor Services.

Please also note requirements for fences from section 25-2-899 of the Land Development Code:

    • A solid fence may not exceed an average height of 6 feet unless certain conditions are met (read more).

    • A solid fence exceeding 6 feet along a Right of Way require a Board of Adjustment variance.

    • If a solid fence is on a corner lot, contact 3-1-1 and ask to speak with someone in Transportation to confirm that it will not obstruct the view of traffic.
